Frank Volk founded Volk Transfer, Inc. in 1948. Frank originally operated with only one tractor. Frank went on to own and operate Volk Transfer for 33 years. He later died in April 1986
Frank built is first facility in 1956. The building sat at the corner of West Ruby and North Front Street, which is now called Willow Street. His motto was, "You Call, We Haul"
in 1973, 104 Lundin Boulevard, Mankato, MN would become home to Volk Transfer to keep up with industry growth. Frank continued to use his Willow Street property as an investment.
Richard "Rick" Volk became President of Volk Transfer in 1974 and later that same year, Richard became owner of Volk. He continued to run the business out of the Lundin Boulevard location until he died at a young age in March 1993.
Carol Volk, the wife of late Richard Volk, took over the business and immediately became President of Volk Transfer, Inc. in 1994
Troy Volk, son of Richard Volk, purchased Volk Transfer, Inc. in 1997 where he was named President. Troy continues to own and operate Volk today.
In an industry that was evolving quickly, Volk Transfer, Inc. expanded their abilities and added Logistics Brokerage division in 1998, which gave Volk the control of their freight even if the hauling was subcontracted.
An Over-the-Road or OTR division was added into the business in 1999. That meant Volk needed to purchase sleeper cab trucks to allow the drivers to haul long distance and be on the road for up to 12 days at a time.
While the Lundin Boulevard seemed perfect at the time, business was growing and by year 2000, there was a need to add a seven door docking area to better serve the warehouse congestion and needs.
By 2004, Less-than-Truckload or LTL division, was added so trucks could deliver pallets of cargo to more than just one end destination.
Less-than-truckload was stretched from a local level to national level allowing the LTL sleeper trucks to make multiple drops of freight across the nation.
With continued growth, The new building broke ground May 26, 2011. 2205 7th Avenue, Mankato, MN would become the new home to Volk Transfer, Inc in November 2011 . With the expanded space, 65-80 trucks can pull in and out of the Volk warehouse on any given day.
It was time to grow again. In 2013, Volk added 20,000 square feet of space to their already 30,000 square foot Warehouse. This was to accommodate Volk's solid customer base and their storage/shipping needs.
A Third Party Fulfillment division was added in 2014, otherwise known as the 3PL. Volk's 3PL division provides a range of distribution, storage, transportation and fulfillment to customers both locally and nationally.
Wade Volk, brother of Troy, began his career at Volk Transfer, Inc. in 2008. In 2019, Wade was promoted to Vice President of Operations.
In 2020 a Flatbed division was added. Flatbeds are one of the most commonly used trailers due to their versatility. A flatbed trailer can be loaded from the top, sides, or rear of the trailer making it a primary and common asset to Volk Transfer.
It was fall of 2021 when Volk acquired a refrigerated trucking company to blend with the existing fleet and services offered. There was also a purchase of a building in North Mankato, which grew Volk's warehouse space by 60,000 square feet.
Late December, Volk broke ground on an 82,000 square foot expansion, to be added to the existing 60,000 square foot warehouse facility in North Mankato.
